But I Can Make Them Speechless Too

October 16th, 2009

Over a dinner, our conversation was as such…

“I can’t believe you did that!” Joyce said.

“Huh? Did what?” Not knowing what she was trying to say.

“Sitting at a bus stop for (close to) 1 hour!! Nothing better to do, is it?!”

“Well… On my defense, I was waiting for bus no. 14e. I didn’t know it will take that long to arrive.” I replied.

“Well, you can take bus no. 14, you know. It’s the same with slightly longer traveling period.” She said without taking a breathe. “And I can’t believe you sat there, did nothing, looking at the sky for that long! The sky in Singapore very blue, is it?!” She added. I sensed her tone like I did something wrong.

“It was windy and cooling la. Besides, it was raining. That’s why I managed to sit there for that long.” I replied while struggling to change to another subject.

“And what you did after that?” She was curious.

“I looked at the sky. It was gloomy as though it’s going to rain anytime soon. So, I walked across the street and took a bus back home.” I said with a grin on my face.

“What the crap?! You waited at a bus stop for one hour. You did nothing and you went back home after that?!” She laughed but I saw her speechless expression after that. “You seriously nothing better to do arh?!”

“Yeeessshh! I went back home and watched television. A cable t.v. in front of my comfy couch-cum-bed in an air-conditioned living room, you know. Dun play play…” I smiled.

“…………..” She decided to change topic right after that.

Sometimes, People Made Me Speechless

October 14th, 2009

It happened not long ago…

“Movie tonight. Remember.” I sent a SMS reminder to my friend.

“Don’t worry la. I won’t forget de.” She replied.

Later at night, after work, we met up…

“Eh… What movie are we watching arh?” My friend asked.

“UP”

“What is it?” She asked again.

“An animation leh.”

“Ouu… What time is the movie?” And she asked again.

I replied. “6.45pm. Didn’t I tell you about it a couple days back?”

“Ya. But I forgot already. All I know is there’s a movie tonight. That’s all it matters to me. Right?”

“…….” I didn’t bother to reply.

Sometimes, I Wish I Know What To Say

October 9th, 2009

“What do you think?” C (not her real name) asked.

Before that, she told me something that caught me off guard. That very statement coming out from her was something I didn’t expect at all. “Your random thought really can go wild, huh…” I replied.

She was looking towards the window blankly. Her fingers were fiddling around a cup she was holding. Probably she didn’t hear what I said.

“You’re joking, right? What’s wrong?” I was trying to seek some explanation behind it.

“Nothing. Just that we seldom talk right now. And lately, I don’t have the mood to talk to him.” She explained.

“Look here…” I was trying to gain her attention but failed to do so. “Where we are right now is far away from where we came from. With the distance, time difference and all, it’s not that easy to communicate with one another.” I was trying to rationalise my reply as much as possible.

“Hhmm…” That’s all she said. I saw her submerged into deep thoughts.

“Furthermore, we are busy with our work / assignments right now and I guess he’s busy with his. So, it’s normal to have less conversation once in awhile because we are so caught up with what we are doing at the moment. It’s probably one of those ‘off’ days, if you know what I mean.” I added. “Don’t think so much lah. Just give some time and I believe things will get better.”

It was unusual silent after that. She didn’t say anything. Neither was there any mood to crack up any stupid jokes like we always do. Though I would like to add more to convince her that it was just a silly thought of hers, but I really didn’t know what other appropriate things to say. Instead, we just sat there in cold silent night sipping our hot tea…
